Teaching others everything they need to know about becoming an ice angler
Ice fishing is a sport that is uniquely venerated to the State of Minnesota and the patrons who reside and vacation here. This beloved pastime is something literally anyone can do, and it is something that just about everyone enjoys to at least experience. While it is a pretty easy activity to do, it can be very intimidating at first. The sheer fact of being on a frozen lake is something that can initially be a huge hurdle. Big Fish and Fry alleviates all initial barriers so that participants can freely learn and enjoy with confidence.
Learning to Ice Fish as a Daily Activity (Day Program)
The Big Fish and Fry Day program is a hands-on learning experience in which participants learn everything they need to know about ice fishing for a day. Our participants learn about things such as: ice safety, how to drill holes, how to set up an ice house, how to locate the fish, how to use ice fishing poles, how to use tip ups, how to safely handle fishing tackle, what kind of fish are in the lakes, what kind of bait to use. The list goes on! Our program provides all of the necessary gear and guides for tutelage, participants simply need to show up.
Learning to Overnight Ice Fish (Overnight Program)
The Big Fish and Fry Overnight Program is a hands-on learning experience in which participants everything they need to know about living in and catching fish out of an ice house on Lake Mille Lacs. Participants learn things such as: safely driving on the ice, how to catch walleye and other fish with poles/tip ups/rattle reels, how to use fish finders/cameras. And aside from fishing techniques our participants learn how to comfortably live on the ice for a night or two.
Learning about different Fishing Lakes
The Day Program is held on various lakes throughout the Twin Cites Metro area. The program shows participants that there are ample fishing opportunities right in their back door.
Learning About Mille Lacs
Lake Mille Lacs is a world class fishery for many different species of fish. Specifically for walleye, it is one of the best in the state for catching trophy fish. Our program shows participants how to successfully take advantage of this unique fishery so that they have the opportunity to catch some really nice fish. Aside from walleye, our participants have a high likelihood of catching some jumbo perch or a big northern pike.
Including Diversity in Ice Fishing
For a multitude of reasons, the sport of ice fishing has a huge lack of diversity when compared to the amount of diversity in Minnesota. One of the goals of Big Fish and Fry is to spread the knowledge, confidence, and ensuing passion into diverse communities.
